Caregiver Readiness Passport

Medical & Safety Disclaimer

Last updated: August 16, 2026

Caregiver Readiness Passport provides general education and caregiver-readiness training related to Type 1 diabetes. It is not a healthcare provider, medical device, emergency monitoring service, or substitute for individualized medical instructions.

The most important rule

Always follow the person's current written diabetes care plan, emergency plan, parent/guardian instructions, and healthcare-team instructions. If the training and the person's current individualized instructions ever differ, the individualized instructions control.

The Service does not make treatment decisions

Caregiver Readiness Passport does not independently:

  • Calculate insulin doses.
  • Recommend boluses or corrections.
  • Tell a caregiver how much insulin to give.
  • Generate individualized carbohydrate treatment amounts.
  • Set personal glucose targets or treatment thresholds.
  • Interpret live CGM readings into a personalized treatment decision.
  • Predict glucose.
  • Control a pump or CGM.
  • Replace a DMMP, 504 plan, medical order, or emergency action plan.

Emergencies

The Service does not monitor a person in real time and cannot detect or respond to an emergency.

If you believe a person is experiencing a medical emergency, follow the person's current emergency instructions and contact 911 or the appropriate emergency service when indicated.

Device and medication training

Device and emergency-medication lessons may reference official manufacturer materials for Dexcom G7, Omnipod 5, BAQSIMI, and related products.

Manufacturer instructions can change. Use the current official instructions for the exact product being used. Do not improvise when a device, medication, applicator, Pod, sensor, insulin product, or emergency situation is uncertain.

Training completion is not medical certification

A course-completion status means only that the assigned online training requirements were completed. It does not create a professional license, medical certification, school authorization, legal scope of practice, or guarantee of hands-on competency.

A parent or authorized organization remains responsible for deciding whether a caregiver is permitted and prepared to perform a hands-on procedure. Practical verification may be required separately.

Age-specific education

Age-band content is designed to help caregivers understand differences in supervision and communication. It does not determine a particular child's abilities. Individual children and teens vary significantly in independence, symptoms, communication, and diabetes skills.
